The free, weekly Mercer Innovation (MIC) and SparkMacon Entrepreneur Lecture Series continues Sept. 13 with a presentation by Mercer Innovation Fellow Stebin Horne.
Horne’s presentation will take place from 5:30-7 p.m. in the Mercer Innovation Center, located in the former Religious Life Building on the Macon campus.
Horne is a Macon native who earned his bachelor’s degree in political science from the University of Georgia and his Juris Doctor from Mercer’s Walter F. George School of Law. He has experience in the healthcare and legal industries and has served the local community in several capacities, including as a Macon City Council member and a board member for the Macon Water Authority.
In July, he was named to the MIC’s inaugural class of Mercer Innovation Fellows. As part of the annual fellowship, Horne receives $20,000 in startup funds, housing, office space and access to University facilities and other resources provided by the Center in order to launch his business, KUDU Safari Braai.
KUDU Safari Braai is a unique, innovative outdoor cooking system consisting of a multifunctional grill, griddle and fire pit combined. It was designed to create an interactive, lively, creative grilling experience for both the people doing the cooking and the people being fed. For more information or to make a contribution to the startup, visit Horne’s Kickstarter campaign.
Mercer Innovation Fellowships are open to entrepreneurs, 21 and older, from across the world, in addition to current Mercer students. Applications for next year’s fellowships are available at mic.mercer.edu/fellows.
MIC and SparkMacon, Macon’s premier makerspace, aim to develop the already rich and brewing culture of entrepreneurism and innovative thinking in Macon and at Mercer. Through efforts such as the Entrepreneur Lecture Series, the organizations strive to foster relationships, network, and collaborate with entrepreneurs, local community, other universities and beyond.
